One day in the Yosemite Village I purchased a book “Meditations of John Muir, Nature’s Temple”. This book quickly become dear to me as I read John Muir’s descriptions of the very place I was. To know he’d walked the same forests, and had gazed upon this land - I felt honored to be able to see these sights.
This quote particularly touch me one night, as I read before bed in my sleeping bag. The full paragraph is as follows:
“But no temple made with hands can compare with Yosemite. Every rock in it’s walls seems to glow with life. Down through the middle of the Valley flows the crystal Merced, River of Mercy, peacefully quiet, reflecting lilies and trees and the onlooking rocks; things frail and fleeting and types of endurance meeting here and blending in countless forms as if into this one mountain mansion Nature had gathered her choicest treasure, to draw her lovers into close and confiding communion with her.” - John Muir
I have the greatest respect for Mr. Muir.
I love days like today, when it’s cool and rainy. I drive up one of the hills that makes the valley I live, in to dog walk. The top is all foggy. That’s when I like imagine I’m in the hills and moors of Ireland or the UK, as I walk with the pups in my hunter wellies. These kinds of days stir one’s heart.

Special thanks to the lovely couple who offered to take my photo upon reaching the top!
That was the best morning. I got going earlier and made the hour or so drive to the valley, making it there by about 7:30am. Experiencing the day’s fresh light in the valley was unreal.
